Friends of the Library

Help enrich the Longview community by becoming a Friend of the Longview Public Library!

WELCOME

The Friends of the Longview Public Library is a non-profit organization established to support the programs and services of the Longview Public Library. Specifically, we support, assist and promote Library activities and help fund the Summer Reading Program and other presentations such as author visits, puppet programs and book fairs, etc. We also maintain an ongoing used book sale located at our bookstore with proceeds benefiting the Library. As we look to the future, the Friends of the Longview Public Library will continue to be a vital resource for the Library.

ORRLINE SHIPPEY SCHOLARSHIP

Mrs. Orrline Shippey who lived from 1914 to 1994, was director of the Longview Public Library for many years while the library was housed in the Nicholson building on Green Street.  A memorial scholarship was established in her honor and the funds are distributed to library staff personnel who wish to work on continuing their education or towards their degree/certification.

The Scholarship also provides funding to library staff to attend the Texas Library Association Conference.

Those wishing to donate to the Orrline Shippey Scholarship may do so through the Friends of the Longview Public Library.
